GUESS WHAT!! I just got chased by a mama moose less than 10 minutes ago! i had NO idea that i could still run that fast. she went west --i went east...i thought the dog and i were in the clear! but when i got back to the building site she had circled around and was there before us. i started down the trail, so did she, i went faster, so did she. i got onto the wide trail and realized that she was going to be moving waaay faster than I so I jetted into the woods and hid behind a cottonwood tree. I had to skirt around it because she still came after me. guess i took one too many pictures. the dog behaved very well though, she came back to check on me after the mooses attention went from her to me, but she kept herself hidden from the moose. So as soon as she took a few steps away from me (she was about ten to fifteen ft away), I jumped behind a different tree. Keep in mind that I still have about 1500 feet before I'm safely inside the house/yard area. I waited there...making the loudest sound I could trying to scare her. HA! a pissed off mama moose is more dangerous that a bear. amoose can kill a bear!...its true.
so...yeah, she went a little further and so i went the other way and lit out for the house down another trail. Holy crap!! Scraped my thigh because i was wearing a skirt...running through the woods. I wish I could see a video of it because all in all it was very cool...f***in' scary shit though. whew! Pics to follow...no, not of her chasin me...i was a little too busy keepin from getting my ass stomped, along w/ the rest of me!
So the lesson today is...leave mom and the newborns alone.
Of course the problem is that we are stalled on clearing the property till she and the baby widen their circle. They're using every trail on our five acres and greg's ten so for a few more days we can't roam the property...at all.
