this land clearing thing is kickin' my butt! no matter, luckily i have to work on this blog and so have a good reason to take a break in the hauling downed trees action.
BACKGROUND -
steve and i have built a couple of houses before, but that was in the eighties...we're not moving like we used to that's for sure. in any case, this isn't new. what is new is that we are older and wiser and so developing a piece of property has different meaning for us now. we talked for a long time about the fact that for all of the environmental-, anti-sprawl rhetoric we toss about, we are actually encroachers and in order to feel good about this footprint we have to make up for it somehow.
now, i've read a lot about eco-communities and i agree that it would be better if all people could live together in concentrated groups so that we wouldn't sprawl into the wilderness...but they already have those kind of communities...they're called cities.
we are so independent and we cherish our solitude so much. i feel a kinship to thoreau every time i walk through my woods and contemplate the leaves and the sounds of nature around me, which is about all i hear.
steve loves to pee in the woods. when we lived in the city he said he wanted to come back to alaska so he could get out of his car and go pee in the woods.
so here we are, in the country.
tomorrow i will begin the thought process behind the type of development we plan to initiate as we begin this...what would you call it...project, quest, job.
in peace,
talyne
WELCOME!
Stories... about living life in Alaska and building a house in the extraordinary Knik Glacier Valley of the Chugach Mountains.
...and maybe some Thoughts or Ideas about how we can make a difference in the world, even from the end of the road.
